Why join a Graduate Student Writing Groups?
Graduate Student Writing Groups provide graduate student writers with a community of writers and several complementary types of support, including;
- Feedback on your writing
- Encouragement to set and accomplish goals
- Resources for resolving conflict and solving problems
- Aid in overcoming "writer's block" and other writing challenges

Thesis/Dissertation Writers' Group
Thesis/Dissertation Writers' Groups are traditional writers' groups that allow students to meet at scheduled times to share their work. Members offer feedback and peer support for setting goals, solving problems, and working efficiently as writer-researchers.
Online Writers' Groups
Online Writers' Groups are similar to traditional writers' groups, but they are conducted online. This option is good for writers in remote areas or those who are unable to meet for regular face-to-face meetings.
Write-ON[LY]
Our Write-ON[LY] is an alternative to traditional writers' groups. This new option is designed for writers who simply want a designated time and place to write. We'll provide the space. All you do is commit to a convenient time and day of the week-then show up ready to write. Individual writers do not read other writers' papers or offer feedback as expected in a traditional writers' group.
Our Fall Write-On[LY]-Thursday section
All meetings are from 5:00-7:00pm in Writing Center Wescoe Roost (Room 4017) except for the following Thursdays where they will be at the Union:
October 22 Pine RoomNovember 5 Governors Room
December 10 Governors Room
Specialty Writers' Groups
This option is ideal for writers who are collaborating on special writing projects including journal articles and/or class projects.
Write-In
The Write-In is an entire day of intensive writing that includes one-on-one consultations and peer/participant consultations if requested. Write-Ins are offered on Saturdays during the summer, fall, and spring semesters.
